Mariana Tereso is a bedroom pop singer-songwriter from Lisbon, Portugal with a penchant for smooth and easy tones. Through her music, she tries to emphasize the personal power that individual people possess. We spent some time with her recent single “Solivagent”, which means wandering alone, and recorded our thoughts.
The Track begins with an electric piano pattern topped off with a bright mallet melody. Mariana’s voice is the main feature, with the central theme of this stripped back production being the songwriter’s choice of melody and lyric.

the stars i seem to follow
will be right here tomorrow
but right now i watch them
get away
another night the same place
until it's filled with different faces
but i'm here again
just trying to see
i feel i see
i keep me grounded
this fear i can't
let go when i'm surrounded
by different people who can't see the real me
i try and try
for a different change
i'll keep just trying
but i know and i know
that with time it may pass
with time it may pass
feeling like it could end
another night the same place
when will i figure everything out?
i don't know i don't know i don't know
how it goes how it goes how it goes
so will you give me a hand?
'cause alone i am
and that's ok
be true to you
you're the one you have
forever
it's you who you should care for
alone i am
and that's ok
be true to you
you're the one you have
forever
The primary message of the song seems to be one of a deeply engrained sense of self reliance, coupled with a bit of the feeling that nobody can truly understand one except oneself.
Musically, the track mostly stick to standard dreamy pop sounds. If you find yourself enjoying some of the l of their sides of radio music, I think that this track is a more fulfilling homemade substitute. Great care was taken in regards to performance here, with some sweet vocal harmonies sprinkled throughout for variety.
Ultimately this is a well constructed track. For my taste it is a bit simple, but for an overwhelming majority of people (myself included) this track will provide a pleasant listening experience. As a side note, I would admit that it would be interesting to hear Mariana’s voice in a more elaborate production sometime down the line. Thus, “Solivagent” earns a grade of “Deeeeecent”. Until next time.
