Sweet Tangerine - Love In The Shadows

Formed just a few months ago amidst the coronavirus pandemic, Sweet Tangerine is a pop group based out of Utah County, Utah that just released a debut single called “Love In The Shadows”. The band is determined to hold strong in terms of recording, and hopes to play many live shows in the future.

“Love In The Shadows” begins with a swung and slow drum intro before the band kicks in led by a stratblues style guitar solo. A soft voice sings in a hushed tone about love lost and feelings of loneliness. The chorus keeps almost the same chord progression, but adds a twist at the end. Doubled vocal harmonies are interwoven throughout the chorus and 2nd verse to provide some extra texture. The second chorus features some extra lead guitar work to sweeten the mix. After a guitar solo, the verse and chorus trade off a gentle winding down and the track fades away after a bit mire than four minutes.

The band operates as a tight unit and carries dynamic change incredibly well. The quality of the sound is as good as you could want it to be considering the style of music, and while the track is not the most original it definitely comes off as more genuine and emotional than an Ed Sheeran or some comparable mainstream pop folk artists. We will be excited to see where this group can go with more songs under their belt. They performed incredibly well and there is massive potential for growth and experimentation within. Thus, “Love In The Shadows” earns a grade of “Aight”. Lovers of poppy folk music will definitely enjoy this one, and we would absolutely make that recommendation. Until next time.
